Airline procedure flying in the face of logic

From: David H Rhodes, Keble Park North, Bishopthorpe, York.

I HAVE just returned from a pleasant holiday in Bulgaria where the highlight must surely be the double touchdown.

We were previously notified that we would touch down first at Leeds Bradford Airport and then fly on to Humberside, our final destination.

A little tired and warm, we had to disembark with our hand luggage and traverse the airport building, going through border control, customs and booking procedures.

This exercise was most exhilarating, as two of our party had bad knee conditions and thus appreciated the workout.

Confusion among the passengers reigned when nobody could or would explain the reason for this processing.

An hour to complete and with no chance of a cuppa along the way.

On our shepherded walk, we didn’t come into any contact with other passengers so surely it wasn’t for security reasons. If security in Bulgaria is efficient where would we pick up anything that warrants a second custom check?

Could the second leg be regarded as an internal flight?

I believe Jet2 already use this same procedure so I presume that other airlines will join in this jolly wheeze.

If any airport spokesman can explain its reason and necessity, I would like to be enlightened.
