All or nothing coverage when it comes to sport

From: Brian H Sheridan, Redmires Road, Sheffield.

LIKE Roger M Dobson (The Yorkshire Post, July 1) I have problems with BBC TV but for entirely different reasons. If they are covering a World Cup match they have to show it in its entirety; extra time, penalties and all. Unlike Downton Abbey, they can’t say: “Tune in next week to see where the drama takes us.” Nor was he “forced to watch” the football at all, let alone Brazil v Chile. How about trying BBC 2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5?

Where I take issue is that we now have blanket coverage of The World Cup and Wimbledon. That’s fine by me, but they will show us hardly any live tennis or football until the next Wimbledon and Euro 2016. They can afford to send 272 people to cover the World Cup in Brazil, yet they have yielded cricket, first to Channel 4, then to satellite TV. The commercial channels’ coverage is excellent but nothing can quite compensate for the adverts from hell.

CAN anyone explain why the BBC’s World Cup coverage is
led by Gary Lineker who contributes so little (Tom Richmond, The Yorkshire Post, June 28) and also the obsession with Robbie Savage, who is just an irritating twit?
