Beyond bagging and belief

From: Mrs Lorna B Ovenden, Raynville Avenue, Leeds.

i MADE a purchase of some lingerie (costing £60) at the Leeds Marks & Spencer store recently.

I requested an extra carrier (I only needed a small one) as I had one or two loose purchases to carry as well (including a package of prawns).

I was astonished that the cashier would not provide me with an extra carrier to carry my other purchases. The cashier had advised: “I’m sorry, but we don’t hand out extra bags.”

I could have told her that some of the lingerie I had purchased was for a friend and then I would have had a spare bag. Alas, I never thought of that, as I was so incredulous!

Regulate scrap metal dealers

From: Andrew Mercer, Oxford Road, Guiseley.

HOW many more plaques have got to be stolen from war memorials (Yorkshire Post, October 5) before the Government decides to properly regulate scrap metal dealers?

The issue is simple. If dealers are legitimate and above board, they should have nothing to fear from such a system. People did not die in the war so that the country’s heritage could be wrecked in this way, did they?

I WOULD like to thank the gentleman who handed in my wallet on Wednesday last week. It had fallen out on the 9.50am Halifax to Leeds bus.

The wallet was intact and fortunately I was able to return to the bus before it departed and recover it from the driver.

Thank you once again.

White rabbits

From: Marjorie Maude, Rainhall Crescent, Barnoldswick.

MAY I have the last word on the white rabbit saga?

At our home we were told that instead of saying “white rabbits” on March 1, we were to say “mad March hares” three times.
