Blame Leeds for Europe and Best for Britain if Brexit talks fail – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Gordon Lawrence, Sheffield.

I THINK you have to admire the sheer tenacity of Leeds for Europe (The Yorkshire Post, October 30 and 31) if not their motives and final goal.

They seem belatedly addicted to statistics. They cite the latest from the Best for Britain organisation, another lobby that seems unable to adjust to the fact we are no longer members of the undemocratic bureaucracy they so extol.

Their polling figures concern whose at fault if the current UK/European Union talks break down. Naturally, it’s overwhelmingly the fault of our Government.

Britain is due to leave the European Union next month when the transition period ends.Britain is due to leave the European Union next month when the transition period ends.
Britain is due to leave the European Union next month when the transition period ends.

In my view, it seems a pity that they seem today obsessed with these numbers on such a relatively trivial issue when they refused to accept the democratic arithmetic in 2016 and even in 2019 (election) when the statistics, fair and square, really mattered.

I would further add that if negotiations do fail, the likes of Leeds for Europe and Best for Britain will have contributed enormously to that failure by giving hope and confidence to the EU.

Nothing has given Brussels more determination and resolution than the continual ‘guerrilla activity’ within
Britain aiming to restore EU hegemony.
