Boris Johnson must complete the job of getting Brexit done: Yorkshire Post Letters

THE number one priority for Boris Johnson when he won a resounding majority in the December election was to get Brexit done.

Although the pandemic has greatly interfered with these negotiations, now that we are slowly coming out of lockdown Brexit must still be prioritised. We cannot allow the violence of rioters to take precedence over the significant majority who voted for Brexit in the 2016 referendum.

Our negotiating position would have been greatly enhanced if MPs in several local constituencies had followed the precise instructions to support the Government – MPs like Yvette Cooper and Ed Miliband. Once we are out of the EU, we can concentrate on other vital matters.

In the meantime the Government must insist that riots and mindless destruction of our history won’t dictate changes to our way of life.

The traditional way of acknowledging sorrow and death in the UK is to bow the head, not take the knee, and the former should be accepted as a more genuine
sign of grief.

We owe it to all people in the UK to look for a genuine, lasting and peaceful outcome which condemns violence and rioting from any source.
