‘Breaking into Fort Knox’ is easier than seeing my GP – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Dr Sheila Hopkinson, Gorman Close, Chesterfield.
Should it be easier to see a GP face-to-face?Should it be easier to see a GP face-to-face?

I WONDER if it is ever going to be possible to see one’s GP again. My local GP surgery has retreated behind the barricades and I think one could get into Fort Knox easier.

I have been able to see the chiropodist, optician, dentist and had an audiologist do a home visit. I have collected repeat prescriptions from the chemist. I have also taken the dog to the vet.

I can shop, use the bus to get into town, browse the outdoor market, go for a swim all with the appropriate care being taken but seeing my GP, that is strictly verboten.

GPs are carrying out more consultants by telephone.GPs are carrying out more consultants by telephone.

Of course I am offered a telephone consultation but he cannot look into my ear canal over the telephone.

My problem isn’t life threatening but if not treated could lead to infection and possibly minor surgery to right it.

Please GPs, take down the barricades and see us face to face. I remember during the Second World War our GP coming to the house on his bicycle while V2 rockets were raining down death and destruction.

They could do with a bit of that wartime spirit now.

I AM weary of the endless and ridiculous discussions about face masks. They do not give 100 per cent protection to the wearer, but common sense tells you they must offer some protection.

We understand also that they offer significant protection to others in the wearer’s vicinity. This country has just about the worst Covid 19 record of any developed nation.

Other countries think face coverings are worthwhile and I suggest they should be compulsory in shops and
other enclosed areas where possible.

My wife and I, both in our 80s, have now started going into shops again but always wearing a mask.

Let’s stop the pointless discussions and just do it rather than wait until Friday week.

From: Peter Hyde, Driffield.

ONCE again we have had
Michael Gove trying to undermine the Prime Minister over whether to make the wearing of face coverings compulsory or not.

This comes after Mr Gove stabbed Boris in the back
during the 2016 leadership contest.

Whilst I would get rid of him from the Cabinet, perhaps Boris is following the old adage ‘Keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer’.
