Brexit deal leaves finance and services in lurch – Yorkshire Post Letters

DESPITE hype in some sections of the press, there is little to celebrate in the deal just announced in Brussels.

The deal on fishing still leaves EU nations with substantial access to British waters, and more important, it appears to say little about finance and services.

This is an area where British firms have done well in Europe and remain in danger of losing badly. Finance and services are far more important for employment and income than fishing.

Whilst some details are yet to emerge, MPs will be right to subject it to forensic scrutiny and if need be vote it out.

BORIS Johnson and Brexit have taken a great stride towards wrecking the home of a once-great empire. Northern Ireland is in a separate union with the South which is something a moderate majority might decide to formalise, while belief in Scottish independence seems as strong as ever.

IF Labour MPs hand Boris Johnson their votes on Wednesday, they will be foolishly putting all of their trust in a Prime Minister who has shown time and time again that he cannot be trusted.

DR John Sentamu, a man of great intellect, retired Archbishop of York, must be feeling somewhat embarrassed being asked to join the largest most expensive overcrowded “care home” in the country – the House of Lords.

One can only feel sympathy, him having to sit and listen to hot air propounded by dozens of nondescript ex-politicians whose careers are littered with nothing but expensive failures, which have cost the nation billions.
