Do we have a prayer if Ebola reaches the UK?

From: Ross Taggart, The Avenue, Eaglescliffe, Stockton-on-Tees.

A FINANCIAL expert surmises that the Stock Market may well drop below 6,000 points as a result of the Ebola outbreak.

I think it rather more likely,
given the lamentable response so far to that danger, that there won’t be a Stock Market in 12 months time.

To imagine that the level of public hygiene in this country will stop the spread of the disease is wishful thinking.

A cursory walk around any city centre, or visit to any publicly used lavatory facility, will disabuse anyone who believes in the idea of public hygiene.

Indeed it is only fairly recently that the concept of hand-washing appears to have been embraced, with some reluctance,in our hospitals.

There are, I believe to all intents and purposes, no effective drugs with which to treat any viral disease, let alone this one.

One hopes therefore that the big pharmaceutical firms,
whom people so often affect
to despise, are working flat
out to produce a vaccine
that will stop this disease in its tracks and save our miserable skins.

Otherwise like the
peasants of old, presumably
we shall have to rely on the power of prayer.
