E-readers are a saviour to some

I ALWAYS read articles by Jayne Dowle with interest and agree with her 99.9 per cent of the time. However I have a comment to make regarding her recent piece about e-readers.

I, too, have been an avid reader since learning to read at the age of four.

I was lucky enough to grow up in a house with books and was introduced to the local library at an early age, as were my own children and in turn theirs.

I am now 76, and although I still love books, I have serious arthritis in my hands. This makes reading hardbacks and large paperbacks impossible and thus an e-reader is my saviour.

If a book is too large for my hands to cope with, I can buy it online and it appears in my reader within seconds. Just spare a thought for those of us who can’t hold our beloved books any more but who can still read with a bit of electronic help.

WE are told that the Cabinet is giving Prince George a toy box made in Leeds as a christening present – retail cost around £300. We are also told that every member has made a contribution to the cost (Yorkshire Post. October 24).

Can we be reassured that these contributions will not be reclaimed from hard-pressed taxpayers as MPs expenses?
