Facts sought
on toll road

From: Laurence Perry, Ewell Close, Chorley, Lancashire.

YOU mentioned that the M6 toll road is the first toll road in the country (Yorkshire Post, April 3).

Surely this accolade should be given to the northern end of the M1 from Lofthouse to the A1(M) at Aberford.

This section of the M1 – “Yorkshire Link” – was built
by a consortium of construction companies who charge the Highways Authority for each vehicle using the road,
therefore everyone throughout the UK is contributing to its upkeep – whether they use it
or not.

Maybe someone can clarify this point?

Rip-off charges from airlines

From: John Rookes, Bramley, Rotherham.

PIRACY used to be exclusive to the high seas, however low-cost airlines now seem to be using underhand tactics to boost their profits.

Not only Michael O’Leary’s Ryanair but now, Jet2 have been exposed by MEH Brown of York (Yorkshire Post, April 2) as rip-off merchants.

These grossly disproportionate administration charges cannot
be justified and should be stopped. Until such time the
only thing to do is vote with
your feet.

THE teachers who facilitated the reported schoolchildren’s food fight in Canvey Island should have recognised the inherent danger of ammunition of triangular flapjacks before it was too late.

“Spent ammunition” in the form of the now modified circular or four-pointed flapjacks should be donated to the starving children of the less enlightened parts of the world.
