February 9: Man’s inhumanity to man has now plumbed new depths

IT is claimed that human beings are God’s chosen creature, created in his image. There are, today, so many instances which directly contradict this and which lead many people to question such beliefs.

To list all of the atrocities which humans are currently practising is beyond the scope of a newspaper letter as the number of them seems to be added to on a daily basis, but there is unbelievable human behaviour in Libya, Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria and the indescribable but utter evil of the Islamic State extremists. How then can we claim to be God’s chosen ones?

Man’s inhumanity to man has sunk to a level which is beyond the comprehension of decent people. Just how can humans treat other humans in such ways?

Are human beings really at a higher level than animals, for animals never behave so disgracefully? Sadly, humans are not content in their appalling cruelty to fellow beings and are increasingly subjecting animals to similar cruelty. Disturbing reports have shown an increase in the number of halal and kosher animals slaughtered without stunning.

Do those responsible for such so-­called religious rituals believe this cruelty is God’s will and that God provided these animals purely for their benefit and to treat them so disgracefully?

It seems they feel ‘well, they’re only animals’, so what’s the fuss? Why, in a country previously proud of its animal welfare policies, has Britain allowed this appalling situation to happen? It cannot help immigrants to be fully welcomed if we ignore the welfare of our animals which have always been a priority of our culture simply to appease the beliefs of those who have voluntarily sought to live in Britain, so why do we allow it?

“When in Rome do as the Romans do” comes to mind.

Humans may be superior to animals in intelligence but when it comes down to ‘senses’ animals make ours look decidedly under developed.

When an animal is transported to an abattoir it senses death from the moment it is loaded into the truck, but to then subject them to inhumane and grotesque methods of slaughter is the clearest indication yet of the way Britain’s wishy-washy immigration policies have been allowed to change our way of life.

And what protests are being made by the Royal Society for 
the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA)? It’s worth repeating the latter part of their title – Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
