Flood bills will hit less well-off

ALTHOUGH I agree that the flood defences need urgent action (Yorkshire Post, February 18), I am concerned that increasing bills for water are not fair for many families on low and fixed incomes.

Water bills have risen greatly over the years and what was once a small payment for a product we seem to get a lot of now seems to be increasing with no end in sight.

Not poverty but neglect

I READ recently how a nutritionist was trying to educate poor schoolchildren who had never seen a carrot and didn’t know what one looked like.

This state of affairs is usually blamed on poverty. But I wouldn’t mind betting that every single child knew what a cigarette looked like. This isn’t poverty, it is neglect. Cigarettes cost far more than carrots.

Soap opera of Royal wedding

CAN anyone explain what David Beckham and his wife have done to merit a VIP invitation to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton?

This wedding is rapidly becoming a soap opera – at great expense to the nation. Why couldn’t the couple have organised a small, dignified ceremony in Windsor free from celebrity endorsement?
