The future for Afghanistan

IN Afghanistan, key figures in the al-Qaida movement are among those captured by Western forces.

For example, a Taliban leader recently taken commanded seven groups of fighters and bombers, involving the death of British soldiers.

What will happen to those people when Cameron calls the forces home prior to the 2015 general election?

Will they continue to be held – and if so, where? By whom? At whose expense? For how long?

Or will they be pardoned 
and turned loose to murder Afghans who have supported or fought alongside the Western powers?

Transport horizons

NOW that Bradford Council leader Dave Green Wakefield’s Peter Box have shown their inability to think regionally or see the bigger picture by registering their respective councils’ opposition to HS2, can we expect the planned Combined Transport Authority, representing West Yorkshire’s five districts, to spend 60 per cent of its time campaigning for the high-speed link and 40 per cent of its time opposing it?

No rite of passage

A FEW weeks ago, arriving from Venice, our plane landed at Leeds Bradford International Airport and offloaded passengers a short but blustery walk to a covered walkway leading to arrivals.

We all climbed a stairway and surprise, surprise – the three exit doors were locked.

A young LBA employee was found and called on her mobile to report this.

Eventually the doors were unlocked for 200- plus passengers – good job there wasn’t a fire!
