Great gallery, poor station

From: Malcolm Grieve, Malvern Road, Brockwell, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

I WENT to the sparkling Hepworth Gallery at Wakefield recently. It’s only a short walk from Kirkgate railway station. What a contrast!

The gallery is bright, cheerful and welcoming. It’s well worth a visit. But the station... it’s derelict, as if on the frontline of a recent war.

When will I be made to feel welcome on arrival at Wakefield? Or must I always be prepared to run for cover?

The genuine Christmas

From: Tom Bairstow, Westway, Bingley, West Yorkshire.

IN his letter (Yorkshire Post, November 24), Peter Ellis is suggesting that, as a nation, we flatly refuse to participate in Christmas celebrations.

While I do agree with many of his views, I will be ignoring his suggestions because the true meaning of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ and that does not have to cost a lot of money.

City and countryside

WITH regard to your atmospheric Picture Post featuring Ferrybridge Power Station (Yorkshire Post, November 21), the Bradford Metropolitan District is two thirds rural and Ferrybridge and Drax can be seen from Bradford’s Baildon Moor on a clear day.

Snuck bar

From: Dr JR Turner, Cropton, Pickering.

I READ that Jayne Dowle recently “snuck” (Yorkshire Post, November 24). It sounds painful. I hope that she’s feeling better.
