Heartfelt relief? Not quite yet

From: Peter R Hyde, Kendale View, Driffield, East Yorkshire.

WHILE I am pleased that a judge has at last shown common sense by changing the ruling regarding the closure of the heart unit at Leeds, I would not be too cock-a-hoop just yet.

Sir Neil McKay made it very clear, on TV recently that, if he has his way, nothing will change and the units at Leeds and Leicester will eventually be closed anyway. The only way the closure can be avoided is if the Health Secretary and David Cameron listen to the people concerned, and I wouldn’t hold my breath on that score either.

I APPLAUD your editorial on migrant labour (Yorkshire Post, March 7). It is amazing how those responsible for the catastrophic situation we now face have the effrontery to criticise those trying to rectify the almost impossible task facing us today.

Pothole plea

From: Andrew Mercer, Guiseley.

THE potholes on the A65 at Kirkstall get deeper with each passing day. Yet Leeds City Council continues to do nothing, even though it appears to have a surfeit of middle managers paid more than £50,000 a year. Perhaps motorists should start sending their repair bills to the council – it might concentrate a few minds.

Southern bias

From: Rhys Thomas, Richmond, North Yorkshire.

HOW ironic that a bit of snow in Sussex and Kent should be headline news for the national BBC news which then chooses to ignore the North if there is widespread disruption because of snow or rain. Talk about the BBC being biased towards the South.
