How many remember those who gave their lives?

From: Nino Hoblyn, North Street, Caistor, Lincolnshire.

VERY poetic words were coming forth from the quill of one Bill Carmichael (Yorkshire Post, August 17) under the headline “Our forces, the heroes of 2012”.

Not unlike a Black Forest gateau that’s been overdone with the sugar, it all started to become very sickly the more one read of his praise in giving thanks to lads and lasses who after this bash were heading out to the scrap heap of government appreciation.

Oh yes sir, how we all can give such high praise in times of
need, but let me tell you now in another few weeks from here on, it will all be forgotten and thanks to the Government that feel good factor will be flushed down the pan and the smiles taken from our faces.

To touch upon those heroes of yesterday in all conflicts of war, how many can raise their hand today and say, “I remember those of yesterday who gave their lives for us today”?

So as today I find when asking in conversation: “Can you please tell me, how many of our lads and lasses have fallen in Afghanistan?” And then I look into their faces which some turn a blank while others form a twisted look upon their mug but it all comes to nowt.

Sad as this is but the sooner
we bring them out from this illegal American occupation, the better.
