Huhne’s crime not worth jail

From: Tim Mickleburgh, Boulevard Avenue, Grimsby.

Former Minister Chris Huhne and his former wife Vicky Pryce have now been jailed. Can I ask why? I mean they have both committed a crime, but are hardly a threat to the general public.

Prison really is not the appropriate punishment in this instance.

I’m afraid though that the
legal profession take crimes
such as contempt of court
and lying under oath as
being really serious, whereas
we the public think violent attacks on people and house burglaries as incidents
more worthy of a custodial sentence.

Humpty Dumpty of bankers

From: David Fletcher, The Oval, Harrogate.

THE prize for the thickest-skinned banker must surely go to “Humpty Dumpty” Stephen Hester, the Government-appointed RBS chief.

Having successfully sailed through a sea of misuse of
capital, replenished by the taxpayer, he now claims a
“half size bank” will soon be offered to repay the taxpayers’ bail-out cash.

How does he stay on the wall?

Comic Relief – a rotting corpse

From: Mark Stevens, Sheffield.

PLEASE pass on my voluminous congratulations to Jayne Dowle (Yorkshire Post, March 7) for her forensic dismantling of the case for Comic Relief.

Magnificent. What a breath
of fresh air she gave us among
the nauseating stench of “celebrity giving”.

No coincidence, I’ll wager, that her piece appears in a
title outside the London
media village where the
rotting corpse of red nose
day continues to fester
behind the smiley faces of comedians keen to extend their shelf life.
