Joe Biden’s victory is no win for the UK: Yorkshire Post Letters

I NOTICE that many in the UK are jumping with joy and are delighted that Joe Biden appears to have won the presidential race to the White House.

Unfortunately for the UK, he may not turn out to be the great friend and ally that Donald Trump most certainly was.

I have the feeling that our special relationship with the US is about to be washed away like snow before the summer rain and our hope of a fantastic trade deal is disappearing into the sunset. It is common knowledge that Joe Biden disliked the results of our Brexit campaign and would, I think, preferred to see the UK shackled to the EU superstate for reasons which are beyond my understanding.

Brexit continues to divide political and public opinion.Brexit continues to divide political and public opinion.

Although Donald Trump may appear to the British to be a bad loser, it is worth remembering that allowing votes to be counted for several days after the polling stations have closed seems to me, as a former election agent, to be an extremely dodgy practice.

I can understand why President Trump and his legal team are suspicious about the integrity of the result and are launching legal challenges in many states.

GRAHAM Rawlings (The Yorkshire Post, November 10) asserts that my understanding of the EU’s constitutional machinery is lacking and wrong. He argues that EU law has to pass through the process of the European Parliament and the EU Council and is democratic. However it is silly to pretend that our position is democratic since we are having to accept the decisions in a consensus of 27 other nations.

MANY people already admit that had they known the truth about Brexit they would have voted differently. Hilary Benn is an MP in Leeds, a city which voted to remain in the EU, as indeed many cities did.

The UK is part of the continent of Europe, and whilst that in itself is not a reason to remain in the market, they are our nearest neighbours and our chances of survival are far stronger with them then without. The Great Britain of old is long gone and a complete mystery to our up and coming generations. What they do know is that their chances of a decent future are far better with Europe than without it.

SURELY the people who are still fighting the Brexit referendum result are guilty of Trumping!
