July 3: Trident nuclear deterrent no use against today’s terror threat

From: Coun Tim Mickleburgh (Lab), Grimsby.

THE recent spate of terrorist attacks shows yet again that even from a military point of view, replacing Trident would be a waste of money. For the perceived threat isn’t coming from a specific country, but a group of terrorists at a variety of locations. What’s more, with some being prepared to die for the cause it isn’t as if a particular weapon will faze them.

From: John Watson, Leyburn.

ONCE again, innocent people have been slaughtered for no reason except that they were assumed to be from the West and therefore they were not Islamic. As for IS, we should let them feel the full might of Western armour and wipe them off the face of the Earth once and for all.

Discounting the two world wars, I bet there have been more lives lost due to religion than from any other cause. It is time all the religions in the world came to some sort of concord.

From: Trev Bromby, Hull.

DURING the illegal wars initiated by the Bush/Blair alliance, civilian deaths were shrugged off as collateral damage. This leaves me to wonder how the Osborne/Duncan Smith alliance will categorise the poverty, mental breakdowns, deaths and suicides caused by disability welfare cuts?
