Knickerbocker glories?

From: Ken Holmes, Cliffe Common, Selby, York.

jayne Dowle has certainly
got her knickerbockers in a
twist re her thoughts of welcoming Tony Blair back to British politics (Yorkshire Post, July 16).

She says we need some big beasts back in politics and
Blair knew the way he
wanted his government to go. That’s just where his main problem lay.

It wasn’t his government – it was supposed to be ours.

Please let’s have some
intellect back into the Government, or is intellect a beast of the past?

Finding the right word

From: Trev Bromby, Sculcoates Lane, Hull.

what a sad opportunity to use one of my favourite words: paradox.

There were three consecutive news items on BBC text.

Pc Simon Harwood whose actions resulted (allegedly) in the death of Ian Tomlinson – not guilty.

Eight rioters whose actions resulted in the death of three shopkeepers – not guilty.

The number of murders and killings is the lowest recorded for nearly 30 years – paradox.

Exercising
one’s opinions

From: Mrs Jennifer Bookbinder, Cottingley Gardens, Leeds.

i THINK Hilary Andrews’ idea about the NHS paying for gym memberships is fatally flawed (Yorkshire Post, July 20).

Yes, in theory, it’s a good idea, but the majority of people would eagerly start, then quickly fall by the wayside.

So, how much money would be wasted here? Why should
the NHS pay for people to join a gym?

It’s surely a luxury, a leisure pursuit, which should be
paid for.
