Looking at other end of the lead

TO continue the debate on dogs, it is interesting to see how different breeds of dog correspond to their owners.

I have noticed on my regular dog walks that it is often the owner who seems aggressive rather than the dog.

There is a certain type of owner who has a bone to pick with the world (sorry) who favours one of the heavy breeds like rottweiler or weimaraner.

These people use their dogs as a weapon. They might just as well carry a cudgel or a weapon for the dog is used to scare off other dogs and other people.

Whether the owner feels safer on his walk, I can only surmise but I have seen how the dog is usually encouraged to be aggressive and if this arouses fear in a smaller dog or its less anti-social owner, this is clearly a sign of pride.

“He’s all right, he’s had his dinner,” they joke – but, in reality, they are quite pleased to see the reception their dog gets.

Wind farm observation

WHILE not being an enthusiast for wind turbines I must challenge Bill Marsh’s statement (Yorkshire Post, May 1) that they are not working for 80 per cent of the time.

I observe a wind farm on the nearby Pennines twice a day and have recorded only 21.5 non-working days this year to date.

Over the last two years, I have observed less than 80 non-working days per year, ie 22 per cent (part-working classed as half day).

Admittedly, these were usually the hottest or coldest days.
