MPs takes ‘gravy train’ to beyond hypocrisy

From: Barrie Frost, Watson’s Lane, Reighton, Filey.

BRITAIN has far too many MPs; far, far greater numbers in relation to the numbers of people they represent when compared to other countries, and far too many for their greatly reduced current workload and responsibilities, which they, themselves, have brought about by transferring so much of this to Europe.

There are 650 MPs at Westminster and changing the boundaries of some parliamentary seats would have reduced the number of MPs by 50, which, in itself, is a derisory reduction.

However, in a recent vote over plans for such a change, even this quite pathetic reduction in their bloated numbers was dismissed, as the Liberal Democrats voted with Labour to defeat the proposal, so the number of MPs will remain unchanged at a giddy level.

The “gravy train” is up and running with all seats taken. Liberal Democrat and Labour MPs certainly are championing the claim that “we are all in this together”, though not in the way understood by the rest of us.

Recently Parliament decided that 5,000 soldiers would be made redundant even though MPs commit our troops to undertake more and more very debatable operations, but then they claim the military is overstaffed and must be reduced by over 25 per cent.

But, apparently, although MPs have a greatly reduced workload, the latter believe they are in no way overstaffed and that their jobs must be secured, their numbers remaining unchanged and redundancy is for other less fortunate people.

This behaviour cannot be described as hypocritical – it is far beyond this!

I’ll bet all the workers who have recently lost their jobs following the closures of Woolworth, JJB Sports, Comet, HMV, Blockbusters and Peacocks, would have loved to have been able to vote to keep their jobs, even happier in the knowledge that others were being compelled to pay their salaries.

Is there any doubts why the country is in such a mess when such dreadful double standards are applied? Can any MP be at all surprised why they are held in such contempt?
