New Governor makes his mark

From: Ian Tomlinson, Westbourne Gardens, Garforth, Leeds.

THANK goodness for the arrival of Canadian Mark Carney as the new governor to resurrect the UK economic crisis.

The monetary messiah has worked his miracles in his very short term of office, isolated from the old boy network.

Credit also go to George Osborne, who must have recognised his own ability was insufficient to resolve the problem. A brave move, George, appointing a non-Etonian!

Mr Carney has certainly made his mark (pardon the pun). We Brits should have no objections to him emanating from a Commonwealth country. Hopefully his next miracle will be in the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, for which I’m sure, the majority of the electorate will pray.

We Brits want to be freed from the EU, not enthralled by it!

Expensive god

From: Janet E Rowntree, Escrick, York.

TO me, it is an obscenity that BT Sport is to spend £900m on securing the rights to show all football matches, for the next three years, on television.

Only eight days later, following the most horrendous typhoon ever devastating the Philippines, there was an announcement that £10m of humanitarian aid will be given by Britain.

Surely there is something tragically wrong with a world in which sport has become such an extortionately expensive god, and where those afflicted by the scourge of such a terrifying natural disaster can be godforsaken. Whenever will we come to our senses?

Boiler rules

From: Mrs Barbara Grubb, Newton Lane, Outwood, Wakefield.

YOUR correspondent who suggests installing the hot water boiler near the kitchen sink makes a valid point.

However various rules and regulations dictate where the boiler can be positioned. The distance from floors, ceilings, windows and doors must be considered. With the energy saving combination condensing boiler, a suitable discharge point is also required. How do I know all this, you may ask. Sixty years as a plumber’s mate makes me the agony aunt for kitchen sinks, bathrooms and toilets.
