Nice earner for flag thieves

From: Martin Shipley, North Lane, Leeds.

For the last 10 years, Yorkshire stone flags have regularly been stolen from the pavements and private properties in Roundhay.

At present they cost £65 for a square metre, plus laying, to replace. The flags are on sale in the south of England for double that price – a nice little earner.

I was advised that the way to stop them being stolen was to slightly deface them which makes them of no interest to the thieves. Simply paint a blob of grey undercoat on or cut an X with an angle grinder which renders them unsaleable or detectable.

I have mentioned this to our local councillor, but no action has been taken.

Education lack for brick thug

From: Iain Morris, Caroline Street, Saltaire, Shipley.

With regard to the news report “Thug with brick injures child in minibus” (Yorkshire Post, April 20), what sort of education has he received from his parents and teachers?

He could quite easily have killed the daughter of a young father who asked a group of youths to behave themselves when they were deliberately kicking a football against his vehicle.

I HOPE the Royal household will think seriously of sending Prince William and Kate Middleton to live in Australia, as high commissioners.

They are such a vibrant couple and would fit in so well with the living in Sydney. They would be great ambassadors for our country.

Time limit

From: Les Arnott, Athelstan Road, Sheffield.

With Frieda Mangold having been born and pretty healthy at 21 weeks and five days, perhaps somebody could explain to me how our abortion time limit is anything other than murder at its very worst?
