No moral case for aid money

From: David Quarrie, Lynden Way, Holgate, York.

I DISAGREE with much of what the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu wrote (Yorkshire Post, June 18) about foreign aid.

We do not have a moral responsibility to tackle social inequalities all around the globe.

Much of the mess is self created and the amount of corruption and wasted aid is staggering. If the wealthy Church of England wishes to give its cash and assets away that is up to it, but Church leaders should not harass the rest of us to follow suit.

From: Barrie Frost, Watson’s Lane, Reighton, Filey.

SURELY the only question asked should be whether Britain can afford to give away such sums of foreign aid at this time?

Pampered life

From: Melvyn West, Staincross, Barnsley.

I AM not an anti-royal but it’s all very well for Peter Hyde (Yorkshire Post, June 17) saying most men of 90 are dribbling into their napkins. I rather think that if most men of 90 had had the pampered lifestyle of the Duke they probably would be a lot sprightlier too, and when their napkin was soiled there would be a servant to replace it.

Just the ticket

From: John Brooke, Leyburn Avenue, Lightcliffe, Halifax.

I WONDER why Allan Ellis (Yorkshire Post, June 18) doesn’t buy his ticket at the booking office at Todmorden station? It would save him the grief in relation to pricing and to which he refers.
