Now raise school leaving age to 17 to drive up standards – Yorkshire Post Letters
IT is a convenient time to review our failing education systems (Justine Greening, The Yorkshire Post, December 19).
A few suggestions on items to consider/examine could be:
Raise school leaving age to 17 – this would benefit students in being able to catch up on lost attendance.
An extra year to mature and gain basic employment skills.
Improve qualifications with better quality content.

Hide AdFurther education to be meaningful with more useful content (for employment prospects).
Encourage those not of university/academic interests or abilities to take up apprenticeships that will provide practical skills training.
Re-introduce Careers Advice Centres nationally.
This is an opportunity to revise our present systems and offerings.
