October 2: Knotty problem for Skipton factory if ties are undone

From: Andrew Peden, MD, Masons Textiles Ltd, Skipton.

I READ Grant Woodwards’s article regarding Robert Preston and ties with a little dread (The Yorkshire Post, September 29).

My company, Masons Textiles Ltd, is 102-years-old and has been weaving and making ties in Skipton in a very modern weaving factory.

We produce huge quantities of cloth per week for the club, corporate and school market so I do hope that the current trend is incorrect as I employ around 35 people.

To be fair the majority of what we produce has a company of club logo woven within the fabric and ties in the main are sold to trade customers as far away as Australia, the USA and Europe as well as the UK.

We are currently weaving cloth for the rugby World Cup which is a high-profile order. However we can be making material for Leeds United, the MCC or Ilkley Golf Club.

Having invested a fortune in plant and equipment over the past 25 years, I hope the conclusions of your piece are wrong.
