Odeon fiasco should be put to public inquiry

From: Christopher Clapham, Shipley.

HOW I agree with John Pennington (Yorkshire Post, June 11) regarding the ongoing issue of the Bradford Odeon.

Only a public body such as Yorkshire Forward would purchase the Odeon and keep it empty for more years than I can remember while fighting the public who want to retain and restore it to its former glory.

Just how many millions has this fiasco cost the public? Should we now not have some sort of public inquiry?

From: Tim Mickleburgh, Boulevard Avenue, Grimsby.

Former Bradford Council leader Eric Pickles is talking of targeting problem families where people have been out of work for generations, even during times of economic prosperity.

It is clear however that he’d never studied A-level economics, or he’d know the difference between cyclical and structural unemployment.

The latter occurs when a traditional industry collapses, such as mining in Yorkshire and deep-sea fishing in Grimsby.

Without large-scale investment in these places, you’re sadly going to get a high jobless level regardless of whether nationally we happen to be undergoing boom or bust.

From: John Wilson, Wilsons Solicitors, New Road Side, Horsforth, Leeds.

I SEE we are to have new domain name endings, like ...beer and ...sex. Is Bradford Council going in for ...hole?

What’s in a name? In this case nothing.
