Offences by rogue cyclists are totally ignored

THE law regarding cyclists and the offences they can and do commit is simply not worth the paper it is written on, and may as well be totally scrapped. I retired from the police some 36 years ago after 31 years service. In those days, cyclists who rode on paths were reported and fined as were those who rode without lights.

Nowadays, it is quite common to watch someone with no lights after dark jump a red light by riding on the pavement.

Of course our once admired police service has been cut to the bone to the extent that cycling offences are totally ignored and, in any case, the Crown Prosecution Service would never allow such an offence to be taken before a court.

How things change – and not for the better either.
