Paper’s photographers capture Yorkshire at its best – Yorkshire Post Letters

SIMON Hulme’s photograph of Sandal Castle near Wakefield (The Yorkshire Post, February 9) prompts me to write to compliment him for the composition and tonal rendition.

Equally deserving of praise are all the staff photographers whose images enhance your pages throughout the week with skilful photography across a diverse range of subjects, in varied locations and lighting conditions.

Also deserving praise is the encouragement to the photographers by the generous allocation of space and position which displays, to their best advantage, the often award-winning images. The use of a wide range of images from other sources is to be appreciated, illustrating the many topics and supporting stories within the columns.

Photography began over 150 years ago and has seen many changes, none more dramatic than digitalisation.

Now we have cameras in phones, raising picture-taking to unbelievable volume while often disregarding continuity and longevity.

However, regardless of age, photographic expertise or the equipment used, winning results are determined by the eye looking through, or at, the viewfinder, and making the exposure in that moment in time.
