Park name should remain

I AGREE 100 per cent with MS Graham (Yorkshire Post, October 15) about retaining the name Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Why the sensitivity? Has anyone in the areas about to join objected to Yorkshire in the title? I would guess not. Imagine if this paper were to be called The Post.

Yorkshire is such a strong brand name. Where do the people proposing the name change originate from? I doubt if they are from Yorkshire.

Wasted opportunity

SOME years ago, a member of the public was dragged into court and fined for misuse of a public waste bin.

His crime? Depositing junk mail. A jobsworth decreed that it was household waste.

Why hasn’t incredibly silly Olly Letwin been charged with depositing office waste in a public bin? After all, we are all in this together.

Safety first

THANK God I loathe London and happily do not have to travel by train there very often.

However, I consider that safety, comfort and good time-keeping much more important than sheer speed.

Surely, £32bn (the estimated cost of the proposed plan for a high-speed link) could be invested more wisely and sensibly during these difficult times?

Fuel’s gold

EVER since King Wencelas people have been searching for winter fuel, but our Government wants us to work out from 140 tariffs exactly what winter fuel would suit our house (Yorkshire Post, October 18).

To someone who is more literate than numerate, this is too much!
