A parliament for England

From: J Cooper, Brunswick Gardens, Garforth, Leeds.

AS the taxpayers financing our part of the air war that will enable the people of Libya to eventually form a government of their own choosing, don’t you think it would be fair for this anti-English Government to give the people of England the right to choose their own government? Aren’t we entitled to the same rights as the Libyans?

We need an English Parliament urgently before all traces of Englishness are swept away. With an English Parliament in place this UK government could move to Scotland and live happily ever after.

Spend foreign aid cash here

Britain is virtually bankrupt – fact. Our Government and most of the UK politicians say we must have cuts in expenditure – I agree.

Many of the most vulnerable people in England, who did not cause the financial mayhem, are having to take reductions in their way of life and standard of living – fair enough to a point.

However, our leaders refuse to make cuts where I believe they most certainly ought to be.

Foreign aid should be stopped entirely. Why give millions of UK taxpayers’ money to the likes of Ethiopia (Yorkshire Post, September 21)?

Get a grip

INSTEAD of travelling around the world, heading to summits, is there any chance David Cameron could spend a week doing his job – namely, as First Lord of the Treasury, sorting out the economic mess?

He can’t leave it to George Osborne, the Chancellor. Someone needs to get a grip.

Home help

From: Max Nottingham, St Faith’s Street, Lincoln.

IT is reported that 100,000 Brits are likely to need charity food aid. It makes us seem like a Third World country. Good luck to the Trussell Trust and MP Kate Green who are helping those at risk of starvation. Iain Duncan Smith at the Ministry of Work and Pensions needs to speed up help for those in dire need.
