Positive discrimination a root cause of unrest

From: Jack Brown, Lamb Lane, Monk Bretton, Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

IT should come as no surprise to anybody that immigrants have been taking the majority of new jobs (Yorkshire Post, June 14).

State and the local governments are the biggest employers and they were encouraged by the last government to positively discriminate for females and all minorities.

Heaven alone knows what is the statistic for the disproportionate employment of homosexuals at the BBC which long ago ceased to be “horrendously white”.

Between 2000 and 2012, Barnsley Council increased its workforce from 9,000 to 11,500, two-thirds of which were female.

In 2002, it proudly announced a new policy to help the disabled into work.

In future, any disabled applicant for a job would be automatically shortlisted and, all other
things being equal in
interview, automatically appointed.

It would be interesting to see
the number of jobs lost in recent cuts by minority or female employees compared with
the whole.

This kind of politico-emotional culture is extremely difficult to counter, let alone reverse.

It creates an undesirable
and unethical minority-employing cycle which is
the root cause of much
social unrest, including
crime.

Ukip has not yet promised
to repeal the Single Equality
Act but it would have overwhelming support for so doing and legislating for employment of no more
than local averages of
minorities by industry, commerce, state and local government.
