Pure escapism of film that moved me to tears

From: Janet Berry, Barfield, Hambleton.

THE new film Jane Eyre is well worth seeing despite disparaging views from the critics!

I absolutely adore this story, no sex, no violence, no bad language, one of the greatest love stories ever told.

The scenery is superb, dark and brooding moors in Derbyshire (why not Yorkshire?) and the story takes a different aspect as it begins as Jane is running away from Mr Rochester and Thornfield Hall and then goes back over her past life.

It is very moving and my partner and I had to wait for the credits to end and the cover of darkness to cover our tears!

The only part I found odd was Jamie Bell (of Billy Elliot fame) playing St John Rivers, as I kept expecting him to break into “I love to boogie”, but perhaps this is just me.

Dame Judi Dench was excellent as Mrs Fairfax and I enjoyed the pronounced Yorkshire accents not so apparent in other productions.

It is amazing that, no matter how many times you watch this story unfold, it still moves you to tears.

I think the reason we love such dramas as this one, Downton Abbey and Lark Rise to Candleford is because we long for that long- lost gentle time when manners and morals were so important. Pure escapism.
