Return reservoir to green space, not turbines

From: Ken Cooke, Wheatley Road, Ilkley.

EXCUSE my rant, but there is absolutely no need to replace the turbines at Chelker Reservoir (Yorkshire Post, October 6). Return it to a green space.

The four pathetic flimsies installed in 1999 (not 1991 as you report) have never worked efficiently and I objected from the beginning about their being a blot on the Dales landscape.

I have every sympathy for the residents of Draughton and Addingham who live nearby, but it is annoying in the extreme to view these ugly structures from my home in Ilkley three miles away.

There is no way they should be replaced with even bigger ones. We just do not need this kind of landscape pollution.

From: Godfrey Bloom, UKIP MEP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

I HAVE just returned from a visit in support of many residents and small businesses in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds. Known to many as “Hockney country” for his magnificent portrayals of the glorious landscapes and “big skies”. No day the same with ever changing light patterns.

Please can the faceless ones in Whitehall, who have now usurped local democracy, designate this wonderful place as an area of outstanding natural beauty and save it from desecration by monstrous wind turbines to line the pockets of the already rich, heavily subsidised few greedy landowners who had the land passed to them and should be keeping it in stewardship for future generations.
