Rolling my eyes at tax avoidance

IT is reported that Rolls-Royce paid no tax during the 2012 tax period. Yet the company reported record profits!

Is this the same Rolls -Royce that my taxes bailed out during the 1970s? It does beg the question, how much is Rolls Royce paying for the facilities it uses in Sheffield? Is that on the taxpayer as well?

Perhaps Batman from Bradford can solve the mystery? We have had boycotts on Starbucks for tax avoidance, so does this mean Skeggy again for another year?

I WELCOME the recent plan by the European Union to cap banker’s bonuses to no more than their annual salary.

But the coalition Government has rallied against the 
proposals, defending massive RBS bonuses as it announced a £5.2bn loss.

I cannot understand why someone earning hundreds of thousands of pounds a year deserves an even bigger bonus. Not while cleaners, who make it possible for bankers to do their jobs, struggle to earn enough to simply live.

Boycott’s back

I AM pleased to read (Yorkshire Post, March 4) that Geoff Boycott is coming back to live in Yorkshire. He may have been a controversial batsman, but his talent was unquestionable. And, unlike certain former players, he’s become a good pundit in the media.

Incidentally, Ray Illingworth and Brian Close in The 
Cricket Paper put themselves 
in an all time great Yorkshire 
XI, but not Boycott. I don’t 
think many cricket buffs agreed with them.
