September 28: So let’s not give in to political correctness...

IT seems to me that we are living in an increasingly political correct society in this day and age, when we are being told how to say our words and how not to say our words.

We have the political correctness (PC) brigade who have banned us from using words that we have always used in the past because it might offend immigrants.

If the PC brigade is going to persist in introducing bans on words that we have always used in the past, then we might as well live on a planet that has no such thing as languages.

By all means, if anyone uses words that are swearing, rude, dirty, offensive, impolite etc then you have every right to be offended and you have every right to want people to stop using them.

I don’t mind if anyone puts the word ‘so’ as the first word of any sentence.

The word ‘Amen’ at the end of a prayer means ‘so be it’.

Someone might say “I was born in Yorkshire” and a 
second person might say “so 
was I”.

I think that Susan Towle (The Yorkshire Post, September 19) ought to accept that Amen means ‘so be it’ and accept ‘so was I’ and ‘so am I’ in these contexts.

I wish that we could have the PC brigade banned for good.
