Show waves the flag to celebrate a great county

From: Bill Cowling, Honorary Show Director, Great Yorkshire Show.

I READ with interest the letter from D Platt (Yorkshire Post, April 30) regarding flying Yorkshire flags at the Great Yorkshire Show.

First of all, may I apologise for the rather discourteous response reportedly given to the writer and assure you that this was not acceptable.

To set the record straight, we are indeed England’s premier show, and are very proud of our Yorkshire heritage and indeed have our own Yorkshire Agricultural Society flag.

This is flown throughout the event, and has the most prestigious position possible, on the President’s Lawn.

The only exception to this is when we have a Royal visitor and the Royal standard is flown from here. The famous Yorkshire rose has a prominent position in the centre of our crest so our heritage and pride in our county is there for all to see.

I hope this clears up the matter and leaves no one in any doubt that we are proud to be Yorkshire!
