Totalitarian rule by EU

From: David W Wright, Easingwold, North Yorkshire.

IN spite of the promises made by David Cameron and now the latest threat from Vince Cable to cut more red tape for businesses and the public, nothing will radically change until the UK leaves the grip of the EU from whence the majority of our legislation and regulations emanate.

William Worsley (Yorkshire Post, July 28) has rightly highlighted just a few of the red tape regulations which are constantly strangling local communities, businesses and farming, and he provides proof of the Government’s inability to stem both the home-grown variety of red tape and that of the EU interference.

This is just more proof of the need to leave the EU before we are finally submerged under the quagmire of bureaucracy and European totalitarian government.

Biggest lake in broadest acres

From: Walter Pearson, Broadacre Park, Brough, East Riding.

ACCORDING to the “Corner of Yorkshire” item (Yorkshire Post, July 16), Malham Tarn, Semerwater and Birkdale Tarn are the largest lakes in Yorkshire.

They are the largest lakes in the Dales but by far the largest lake in Yorkshire is Hornsea Mere in the East Riding.

It is two miles long, three quarters of a mile at it’s widest point, it has a surface area of 467 acres – and is well worth a visit.

IT is my hope that this country never again is subject to the depredations of socialism. As Bernard Ingham says, “it has been tested to destruction” and fails every time.

As a young man, I lived in Canada for some years. It is a prosperous, well-run country that has never had a Left-wing government.
