Travellers on the wrong road
I HAVE received an email from East Riding Council advising me of the proposed new local plan which is to provide a number of additional gipsy sites to the East Riding.
I am sure that this point will make little difference to any argument/discussion but may I point out that there is a significant difference between “gipsies” and ‘‘travellers”.

I, like many other people feel that “travellers” are being forced upon us by the equal opportunities culture, so prevalent in the UK.
Criminal to cut jail sentences
From: Bob Watson, Springfield Road, Baildon.
MAGISTRATES in this region are sending between 3.6 and 3.8 per cent of offenders to prison, which is close to the national average (Yorkshire Post, April 22).
The report went on to state that the Howard League for Penal Reform considers this proportion to be far too high, and wishes to see a much bigger level of non-custodial sentences handed down.

Many of us are fed up of seeing persistent offenders continuing to escape detention, and have very much an opposite view to that being pushed by the Howard League.
