The travesty of selling medals

From: Jeremy Banyard, Long Meadows, Ripon.

I AM absolutely appalled that a serving police officer and other have seen fit to sell their Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal (Yorkshire Post, April 26).

Especially so when there are hundreds or even thousands of ex-servicemen who, having missed out on the Silver Jubilee and Golden Jubilee medals, now find that they are not allowed to receive the Diamond Jubilee medal.

Those of us who regularly parade for Remembrance Sunday, Armed Forces Day and other official days would dearly love to honour our Queen and country by the wearing of such medals.

Surely some law could be enacted to stop this travesty or if the recipients do not want the medals they can be handed back to be issued to someone who would actually treasure them?

Museum visit is champion

From: Martin Whitcombe, Height Lane, Oxenhope.

I RECENTLY visited “Stevo’s” Rugby League Heritage Museum at the George Hotel in Huddersfield with my young son.

We were truly amazed at what a fantastic collection of rugby league history was on display and how much of it there is. It was our first visit and I would strongly recommend anyone with an interest in sport and particularly rugby, to get along there and experience its unique atmosphere and marvel at some of the memorabilia of the great players and events of the past.

Entry was free, it is open at weekends and we were guided around the exhibition by a most enthusiastic and knowledgeable curator and to cap it all, Steve popped in for a cuppa!
