Ukip gains show the way ahead if Cameron is to survive

CONGRATULATIONS are due to Ukip and its leader Nigel Farage for their spectacular gains in Thursday’s elections.

As a lifelong Tory, I applaud their intention to withdraw the UK from the clutches of that bureaucratic nightmare, the EU, whose interference in our judiciary, agriculture and immigration policy has transformed this once great nation into a shambling wreck of its former self.

If David Cameron does not 
give us the promised referendum on EU membership now, 
before the next General 
Election, he will cast the Tory party and his coalition partners, the Lib Dems, into the dustbin 
of history.

It will commit Britain to be ruled by the Labour party 
who will continue their 
idiotic high spending and economically ruinous policies as practised by Tony Blair 
and Gordon Brown until Britain will no longer exist as 
an independent democratic nation state.

DAVID Cameron (Yorkshire Post, April 27) is quoted as saying: “If you want to keep council tax down, then you vote Conservative and get good value for money.”

I wonder if any of our local Conservative councillors, or our Members of Parliament, can explain how it comes about that we, the residents of Whitby, pay higher council tax than the residents of Kensington and Chelsea, Wandsworth, and Westminster?

Further, one property Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AF, has just been put on the market for £250m; the council tax due on this house, it being in Band H in the City of Westminster, is £1361.48p – that’s right, thirteen hundred and sixty one pounds, forty eight pence.

Does this seem just and fair?

Mrs Thatcher said that council tax charges were always lower in areas where Conservatives were in control of the local councils, as they were more efficient, so what happened in our area? Have efficiency and fiscal prudence gone out to lunch?

NOW Mr Cameron, will you listen to the people? You have had your warning in the local elections.

Stop being arrogant and thinking that you know what is good for us. Get your act together, stop spending billions on foreign aid, give us a referendum on Europe and get us out of the Human Rights Act.

If you do, you may just help the country avoid the possibility of us being ruined yet again by the dreaded Miliband/Balls potential disaster.

THE surge in support for Ukip has been dismissed by the main three political parties as partly being “just a protest vote” and also a “mere flash in the pan, as was the brief support for the BNP some time back”. Well, the main three would say that wouldn’t they? Happily dismissing those of us who have voted Ukip like uninformed children who will no doubt see sense and come back to the fold at the main election and vote them back in.

This is typical of the three – little realising that most of us at grass roots level are thoroughly sick of the same rhetoric coming from the firmly established career politicians whose sole intent is to remain year after year in a lucrative job while failing to appreciate what their original objectives were.

Ukip received fewer than one quarter of the council seats which its votes would have earned under a fair electoral system.

UNDER a European Union agreement, members visiting this country are entitled to ‘free’ treatment on the NHS, the cost of which is supposed to be repaid to us by their national governments.

In 2012, Britain settled bills for £900m. Statistics show we have received £48m in recompense.

Why do we try to behave honourably when we are dealing with people who do not think as we do, and always take advantage? Charity should begin at home, we should be looking, we should be looking after our own sick and elderly in these times of austerity.

IF the Tory Party is to survive another election, David Cameron must stiffen his spine.

After all he is Prime Minister and should lead, instead of being led by a group of ex-public schoolboys, most born with a silver spoon in their mouths.

Further, he should drop all those civil servants who seem to run the country alongside his matey advisers.

What this country needs now are tough legislators who were brought up in the University of Life, who understand the needs of the majority and not the city slickers and bankers who all get away with economic murder.

David Cameron has been elected as leader of the present government. It is time he shows who is boss, instead of being led down a stony path like a little boy.
