Unlocking a number of discoveries in car park

From: M J Wadley, Olive Grove, Harrogate.

MY present car is the first I have had with remote central locking feature. For some time I got in the habit when having parked, and walking back to the car across the car park, I would intermittently operate the unlocking feature of the car key.

I was interested to see if any other car would respond. If one did, I would want to know why. I gave up when I finally realised that the odds would probably be something like that of winning the national Lotto at 14 million to one. In carrying out that exercise I established that the maximum operating distance of the key to unlock the car door was 20 paces.

Some few years ago, walking across a car park, I noticed a car with what I thought was an unusual number plate and then realised that it was the first one I had seen with the new registration numbering, where the year of registering is incorporated.

It was a new looking car and I walked round it to admire its looks. I noticed that front and rear number plates were different, two adjacent letters had been transposed. I left a note under the windscreen wiper, stating the fault.

Later that day, I got a phone call thanking me. The caller said that he had collected his new car from the garage only that morning.

Cars can be interesting!
