Values of the Wild West

From: Roger M Dobson, Ash Street, Cross Hills, Keighley.

HAVING watched the ITV programme America and Its Guns, I must come down firmly on the side of the anti-gun lobby.

Remembering Princess Diana

From: Nigel Boddy, Fife Road, Darlington.

KATE Middleton and Prince William are about to have their first child. This will be Diana Spencer’s first grandchild. When Diana died in a car accident 16 years ago, we were promised a public holiday on July 1 every year to remember her birthday.

Is this the time to give us the public holiday we were all promised everywhere in the UK? If we are not to be given an extra public holiday to make up the pitiful number we have compared to other countries, can we at least move one of the May Bank Holidays in England to the first week in July so we can remember Diana on a happy day?

Bring back ‘the bad old days’

From: Margaret Jowett, Ashcroft, Stanhope, Weardale, County Durham.

HAVING had a recent spell in hospital, I long for the return of the “good old, bad old days”.

No television. Visiting hours one hour in the afternoon, likewise in the evening, with only two visitors per patient.

How I longed for peace and quiet.
