Viewer not impressed by interviews with Duke

From: Janet Berry, Barfield, Hambleton.

WHAT a thoroughly unpleasant rude man is the Duke of Edinburgh (Yorkshire Post, June 10). I watched in disbelief as he gave two interviews to Alan Titchmarsh and Fiona Bruce for his 90th birthday.

Why on earth did he agree to be interviewed if he did not intend to answer any of their questions and refused to give any opinions?

Most irritating of all at the end of each sentence he gave a patronising laugh as if to excuse his banal statements. He admitted at one point that he had not wished to be interviewed, so why did he bother?

I think he is so used to everyone cringing and fawning round him that he imagines he can say and do what he likes.

People call him eccentric and a character, but I think he is downright rude and is just a very grumpy old man.

The only time Fiona Bruce did challenge him was when he inferred she was not a professional. When she said she liked to think she was, he seemed at a bit of a loss how to respond.

It is always said how sad that he had to give up his naval career to accompany the Queen but it was his choice and he has hardly had a hard life.

Watching these profiles made me realise how his children have turned out as they have. I was not impressed.
