We are working to recruit local nursing staff

From: Dr Neil Pease, Executive director of organisational development and workforce, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

WITH regard to your article about international nurse recruitment at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Yorkshire Post, August 31), I would like to clarify that this
is just one of a number of initiatives to support the recruitment of registered nurses to the Trust.

In addition to the recruitment of nurses from overseas, the Trust has recently advertised jobs on both a local and national basis and has run a number of local recruitment events to attract staff from our community.

We employ a large number of newly qualified nurses every year who have undertaken their practice placements in the Trust and who live locally.

We support nurses returning to practice and will continue to do so, and we are now exploring the re-introduction of the secondment of staff to undertake nurse training.

We offer posts on a full or part-time basis and have a range
of policies and procedures
in place designed to support
staff in achieving a work-life
balance.

Most NHS trusts across the country face challenges in recruiting nurses and doctors from within the UK and we are not alone in looking to Europe and beyond to fill our vacancies with high-quality staff.
