We share your phone hang-ups

From: Allan Wood, Moorside, Cleckheaton.

THANK you Mr David Chambers (Yorkshire Post, February 23) for your letter about your newly-acquired mobile phone.

It gave my wife and I a good laugh to start our day. I just hope that you don’t receive any text messages as these are written in some sort of code that the Enigma machine would have trouble deciphering. Thank you for making our day.

RECENT letters about the poor standard of driving made me think about a sign at the approach to a roundabout outside Fort William which reads: “Please indicate your direction at roundabout.”

I don’t do much distance driving and this is the first time I’ve come across such a sign, but it is helpful if drivers would indicate if they are turning left at the exit where I’m waiting to join!

Custom goes on

From: T and S Richardson, Gransmoor, Driffield.

IT was lovely to see the Archive picture of the decorated well at Harpham (Yorkshire Post, February 27). This custom and service still goes on. This year the date is Thursday, May 10, when the choir from Beverley Minster will proceed to the well and sing a short service before a sung evensong in Harpham Church.

The archive pictures are much enjoyed – thank you.

Hewer hooray

From: Mrs DM Meer, Bramham Road, Bingley.

I FEEL I must write in support of Nick Hewer. He has brought a new dimension to Countdown. The contestants are encouraged and chatted to. All the hosts have been good but Nick is one of the best.
