When politics have failed...

WHILE serving my National Service with a Yorkshire infantry regiment, I remember some wise words spoken by our company commander: “When you ask me to do my job it means the politicians failed to do theirs.”

I assume that his use of the word politicians referred to all governments.

Am I in the minority of one in not liking the verse “They shall grow not old...” Is the writer suggesting they were fortunate to have been killed and not to face old age? Those boys lost all their young lives and. What a dismal caricature of old age. Weary and condemned indeed!
