Why cycle bells should be mandatory to protect pedestrians – Yorkshire Post Letters
LIKE many others, I have taken advantage of the Covid-19 restrictions to enjoy the delights of walking in the Yorkshire countryside.
I have happily shared country lanes with cyclists but on several occasions I have felt threatened by them bearing down on me from behind with little warning other than the subtle hiss of tyres or, as the other day while enjoying the local countryside, warning shouts from the rider.

No doubt this is exhilarating for them but should they make contact with a walker the results could be catastrophic.
So what happened to the cycle bell? Those of us of a certain age will remember when all bikes had one.
Is it considered to be only an accessory for wimps or maybe the miniscule additional weight affects the performance of some of the lightweight super bikes?
