For a few short years we were privileged to witness the skill and mastery of a truly gifted sportsman in Rob Burrow (The Yorkshire Post, October 23).

A family man of indomitable courage and spirit, he has stolen the hearts of rugby league fans everywhere, only to have his glittering career snatched away when Motor Neurone Disease invaded his life.

If there is a God in Heaven, then surely he will hear the deafening roar of thousands of prayers that have been ‘sent up’ in recent weeks and months in support of this humble and clearly adored young man?

Rob Burrow’s life with MND redefines courage – The Yorkshire Post says

We may moan and complain about restrictions forced upon us by Covid-19, and the accompanying changes to our lifestyles, but they are nothing compared to Rob’s problems, are they?

He is in a position that few of us can truly comprehend, yet his brave words – “I have too many reasons to live, and I am not giving in ‘til my last breath” – inspire us all and make us see how shallow and selfish we are sometimes.

I sincerely hope that the huge tide of love and support that is directed at Rob Burrow will bring him comfort, and prove to him what a treasure he is to all his colleagues and rugby league fans everywhere.
